Is Poor Indoor Air Quality Affecting Your Health?
The EPA has reported that toxic chemicals found in the home are, on the average, three times more likely to cause cancer than outdoor airborne pollutants.
The Consumer Product Safety Commission connects 150 chemicals commonly found in our homes to allergies, birth defects, cancer and psychological disorders.
The National Institute of Occupational Safety and Health analyzed 2,983 chemicals used in personal care products and 884 were found to be toxic - some even caused mutagenic changes. Of the 884 chemicals found:
- 884 are toxic
- 146 cause tumors
- 218 cause reproductive complications
- 778 cause acute toxicity
- 14 cause biological mutations
- 376 cause skin and eye irritations

FORMALDEHYDE is a cheap preservative frequently found in cleaners and personal care products. The MSDS for formaldehyde warns: "Suspected carcinogen; May be fatal if inhaled, swallowed or absorbed through the skin." You will be shocked to learn that formaldehyde is a common ingredient in baby shampoo, bubble bath, deodorants, perfume, cologne, hair dye, mouthwash, toothpaste, hair spray, and many other personal care items.
What Cleaning Products Are Used In Your Child's School?
Children typically spend 6-8 hours per day in school buildings, and their growing bodies make them more sensitive to the impacts of environmental toxins. The dramatic increases in learning disorders, such as attention deficit hyperactivity disorder and asthma, are linked to exposure to environmental chemicals. Nationally, asthma affects more than 4.8 million children and accounts for more than 10 million school absences each year. Asthma treatment costs to the nation are an estimated $11.3 billion. Over eight percent of Florida's children suffer from asthma. Green Cleaning programs in schools save money on products that are as effective as traditional products, reduce school absenteeism of students and staff due to improved health, and attract positive attention.
Find out more about how your school can use healthier and safer cleaning products, so your child has every chance to reach their full potential.
